Medical Society of New Jersey & QualCare, Inc. Offer Discount Rx Drug Cards to Ease Some of the Burden on Uninsured Patients in New Jersey
Trenton, NJ – Physicians in the state of New Jersey will now have the ability to issue discount drug cards at no cost to their uninsured patients through a unique partnership between the Medical Society of New Jersey and QualCare, Inc. The announcement was made during a press conference held today at the State House in conjunction with Physician Appreciation Day in New Jersey. As a result of the joint venture, patients or any of their family members without prescription drug coverage can use the discount cards at any one of 50,000 pharmacies nationwide.
The prescription savings cards will be distributed to participating QualCare physicians and members of the Medical Society of New Jersey within the following practice specialties: Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Cardiology, Pulmonology and Gastroenterology, as well as other select specialties to be determined. Physicians may issue the cards at their own discretion.
Patients and their families will be instructed to present the card when filling or refilling any prescription. The cards do not expire and prescription drug costs will be discounted by up to 50% at the time of purchase with some generic drugs offered at deeper discounts. A toll free help-desk is available for patient questions, staffed by a registered pharmacist.
According to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, 1.4 million New Jersey residents do not have health insurance and 275,000 are children. The U.S. Census ranks New Jersey tenth out of 50 U.S. states for the most uninsured citizens.
“On behalf of our membership, I am pleased we are able to offer this discount card to the people who need it most – New Jersey residents and their family members without health insurance,” said Michael Kornett, Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Society of New Jersey.
“Our physicians have been asking for our help in providing more affordable access for their neediest patients and this unique partnership allows us to do just that,” added the 215th President of the Medical Society of New Jersey, Richard Scott, M.D.
“We are excited to be able to be a sponsor of this program which addresses the needs of New Jersey’s uninsured", said Annette Catino, President & CEO, QualCare, Inc. “We are pleased to be working with the Medical Society of New Jersey and all QualCare participating physicians in serving the needs of New Jersey.”
"With health care costs rising and 1.4 million uninsured New Jersey residents, this is an especially appropriate time for partnerships like this one between the Medical Society of New Jersey and QualCare to expand health care access for New Jersey's uninsured," said Health and Senior Services Commissioner Heather Howard.
