October 4, 2018 statement from the MSNJ Board of Trustees:

“The Medical Society of New Jersey Board of Trustees voted to oppose the state’s efforts to legalize recreational marijuana, stating the group’s analysis of data pertaining to roadway dangers, negative effects on adolescent brain development and fetal development and the risk of respiratory diseases and other health conditions. As physicians, we do not take positions on public policy based on what’s popular in the court of public opinion. As for the recreational use of marijuana, we cannot support legislation that if enacted will result in adverse health effects on New Jersey residents.”
